First things first!! This is my backyard, neglected this spring due to the chilly temperatures :-( But what is actually wrong with beautiful, delicate violets? They do seem to have taken over.
Birds and blues has been the inspiration for my latest incarnation of collected paraphernalia and "picks" at Counting Sheep Antiques in Berlin, Mass. This is the first time I have actually used a theme to help me choose items to put in my space. It's the same way I style a room. And you can, too. It usually begins with a picture from a magazine or a piece of art or something I have seen in nature. One image plants the inspiration and then I look for things that "collected" will create the look I'm after.
Moving outside the barn, I discovered a space for my "pickings". I recovered an antique cultivator and lime spreader, which were buried in deep mud and vines, cleaned them off and added a small but vibrantly-colored planter and voila!
